HOUSTON, TX – (June 17, 2019) – Commissioner Adrian Garcia is working to fulfill his promise to make education a priority by launching a free test-prep program. In partnership with Project GRAD Houston, Harris County Precinct 2 is now offering a free 4-week course that will help students prepare for the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT).

In response to several requests to review the final Harris County Auditors Office Report on the management structure of Sylvan Beach, Precinct 2 is posting the department’s report publically here.

Harris County, TX — THURSDAY OCTOBER 1st, Commissioner Adrian Garcia, along with Baylor College of Medicine and United Health Partners (UHP) announced the arrival and installation of the first of two SmartPods, which are adaptable and mobile health care structures. Designed by Baylor College of Medicine with validation done with the help of NASA engineers, the SmartPods will be known as ACCESS2HEALTH at Precinct 2 Facilities.

Harris County, TX — TODAY, Commissioners Court moved to enact new guidelines for minority and women-owned businesses (MWBE’s) to receive project contracts from Harris County, a move championed by Commissioner Adrian Garcia since being elected as Commissioner in 2019.

Commissioner Garcia has commenced a first-of-its-kind collaboration with the Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC) and industry leaders to strengthen the County’s ability to adeptly analyze air quality in the Precinct 2.

Harris County, TX— Since being elected into office, Commissioner Adrian Garcia has made drainage maintenance a major priority. This week, he celebrated the completion of 1 million linear feet of ditching in Precinct 2. Roadside ditching and drainage maintenance improves water conveyance to drainage outfalls, which helps in the reduction of potential flooding for residents and businesses. Without proper maintenance, standing water can penetrate and seep under road surfaces causing deterioration, which in turn, requires more frequent, costly road repairs, and neighborhood flooding. Many neighborhoods that have not been serviced in years now have clean, excavated ditches.  

Harris County, TX — TODAY, Harris County Commissioners Court has adopted an overall reduced tax rate for fiscal year 2021. Previously, Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia had proposed the motion to cut property tax rates, which was approved unanimously. The new tax rate adopted will save taxpayers 1.3 cents per $100 of assessed value on their homes or approximately $26 on a home valued at $200,000. The plan not only saves taxpayers money, it also still funds crucial priorities such as Flood Control and Harris Health.

Houston, TX - Houston Mayor Pro Tem Dave Martin and Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia are excited to announce the outcome of the El Dorado Swale Survey. Mayor Pro Tem Martin was confident residents would oppose the installation of a median swale, however, due to the increased cost of in-ground detention Mayor Pro Tem Martin needed data to support this design modification to the existing El Dorado Expansion Project. The residents of Clear Lake and surrounding communities provided more than 1,500 unique responses with an overwhelming 80% in opposition of the median swale.

Harris County, TX— Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia is proud to announce the start of construction on improvements along Wallisville Road in Highlands.

Harris County, TX — TODAY, after a motion introduced by Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia, Harris County Commissioners Court will increase funding to the Harris County Rental Assistance Fund. With an additional $15 million added to the fund, recipients are now eligible to receive up to a maximum total of $1,900 per household.
