Bringing Joy to Someone Who Doesn’t Expect it

Can you imagine waking up on Christmas Day without any family nearby or any presents to open? Unfortunately, this is a situation that many people find themselves in every Christmas. However, every year our Special Programs team and the communities in Precinct 2 come together with the Adopt-a-Resident Program to make sure more people get to have a great holiday season.

    December— World Aids Awareness Month

According to AIDS.gov, about 1.1 million people were diagnosed with HIV/AIDS by the end of 2016 in the United States. Today, this virus and disease affect over 29,000 people in the Greater Houston area alone. Although there is not an effective cure to this virus and disease, Harris County is taking steps towards raising awareness and providing services to those who are affected.

How our Community Relations team listens, gets involved, and takes action

Harris County Precinct 2 is a very big place. Encompassing 17 community centers, 15 different municipalities (including parts of Houston), 12 school districts and over 1,300 miles of roads within its boundaries, the precinct is an agglomeration of varying demographics, needs, talents, resources, and unique challenges. To accurately and meaningfully serve all of Precinct 2 communities, Commissioner Adrian Garcia began his term by hosting listening sessions and town halls designed to better understand the needs and concerns of precinct 2 constituents. The goal? To engage, educate, and empower the Precinct 2 community as a whole.

Harris County Precinct 2’s Veteran Services Program

November 11 is known as the day we pay tribute to those who have fought and are currently fighting for our freedom: our veterans. As we honor all who served our country, there are still not enough words to adequately show appreciation for their sacrifice. Commissioner Adrian Garcia entered office with goals to make Precinct 2 a better place, and one was to create more opportunities that would better the lives of our veterans. At a Commissioners Court meeting held on October 8, 2019, Commissioner Garcia declared the V.V. Ramsey Community Center, located in 16003 Lorenzo St in Channelview, TX 77530, as the official V.V. Ramsey Veterans Center.

    Instructors to Remember Forever

The hearts of our Crosby Community are left broken with the passing of two beloved instructors: Cynthia Ann Roberts; and Cindy Forsythe. Cynthia, also known as “Cindy,” Ann Roberts was born on January 11, 1960, in Baytown, TX. She grew up in Crosby, TX attending Sacred Heart Catholic School in her early years and graduated from Crosby High School in 1978. In 2006, Cynthia began to make a difference in the lives of the people from May Community Center and Crosby Community Center by teaching Yoga twice a week. She had such an incredible passion for yoga and volunteer work that she began to teach two additional days.
