1. Tell us briefly about your professional background and what led you to work with Precinct 2.

With over a decade of experience in program coordination and strategic financial planning, I have dedicated my career to workforce development and community empowerment. My background in educational leadership, combined with 24 years of military service, has given me a deep understanding of leadership, operational efficiency, and veteran transition challenges. My passion for creating opportunities and fostering sustainable community partnerships led me to Harris County Precinct 2, where I can directly impact residents by developing programs that promote workforce readiness and veteran support. Serving in this role allows me to leverage my expertise to enhance economic opportunities and improve lives.

2. How does your current role impact the residents of Precinct 2, and what do you enjoy most about your job?

As the Assistant Director for Workforce Development and Veteran Services, I create and implement programs that equip residents with the skills and resources needed for career advancement. Focusing on workforce upskilling, job placement, and veteran transition services, I help individuals gain stability and economic independence. What I enjoy most is seeing the direct impact of these initiatives—whether it’s a veteran successfully transitioning into civilian employment or a resident securing a job that provides long-term financial security. The joy I derive from knowing that my work contributes to building a stronger, more inclusive community is truly rewarding.

3. What does Black History Month mean to you?

Black History Month holds a special place in my heart. It is a time to honor Black individuals' rich and diverse contributions throughout history—many of whom were left out of traditional narratives. It is an opportunity for reflection, education, and recognition of the achievements that have shaped our nation and continue to inspire future generations. For me, it also serves as a reminder that Black history is not just about struggle but also resilience, innovation, and excellence. It is a time to celebrate the impact of Black leaders, inventors, educators, and trailblazers who have paved the way for progress.

4. Who or what event in Black history inspires you?

General Colin Powell’s remarkable career and leadership inspire me greatly. As the first African American Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and later the first Black U.S. Secretary of State, Powell broke military and political barriers. His development of the Powell Doctrine and his leadership during critical global events demonstrated his strategic brilliance and commitment to service. Beyond his military and political achievements, his dedication to education and youth development through America’s Promise is a testament to his lifelong empowerment mission. His legacy is a powerful example of perseverance, integrity, and leadership, which I strive to uphold in my work, and his influence is a constant source of inspiration for me.
