Q&A with Precinct 2's Deputy Victor Lara, Precinct 2's Law Enforcement Liaison
1. Describe your role and how it impacts Precinct 2 residents.
My role within Harris County Precinct 2, is being the liaison between the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and Precinct 2. I also work with all the other law enforcement agencies that are found within the Harris County Precinct 2 area.
I believe the Harris County Precinct 2 residents are impacted due to the fact that I get to work along various Harris County agencies to help resolve the patron’s issues. Some of the issues and concerns from the Harris County patrons fall under Nuisance Abatement. Some examples of nuisance abatement in Harris County are abandoned properties, illegal dumping, traffic hazards, speeding vehicles, animal control and any other concerns that the patriots of Harris County may have.
2. Why did you decide to pursue a career in law enforcement?
There are various reasons why I decided to pursue a career in law enforcement. I get to experience a lot of variety in the day-to day-assignments. I never have the same day twice which makes my job interesting and never dull. Some of these assignments consist of; traffic violations, motor vehicle accidents, theft, domestic violence, mental health and many more. Another reason why I decided to be a police officer is because one of my main responsibility is to protect and serve the community as well as problem solving. I like to help the community and enjoy making a difference by partaking in the community activities.
3. This month we celebrated National Night Out. What do you enjoy most about NNO or what is your favorite memory of a past NNO event?
I enjoy celebrating National Night Out because it gives me the opportunity to meet a lot of patrons. I get to meet patrons that normally don’t call the police to their dwelling. I get to interact with family and children in a positive environment. My hope is that I am building relationships with the community.
4. What is your favorite place in Precinct 2 to visit?
I really don’t have a favorite place in Harris County Precinct 2. I feel that Precinct 2 consists of many different communities and they all make me feel welcomed.
5. We’d also like a short bio – just 2-4 lines about who you are, where you’re from, how long you’ve been with Precinct 2, etc.
I have been in law enforcement for a total of 21 years. I am currently a Master Peace Officer and I also hold a Police Officer Instructor License. I was a jailer for 4 years and I have been a deputy for 17 years. I started working patrol in the Greenspoint area and then I have been working in the Harris County Sherriff’s Parks division which includes Harris County Precinct 2 parks and their community centers for 8 years.
