Q&A with Ramiro Rodriguez, Community Center Aide at JD Walker Community Center

1. Tell us a little about your professional background and what led you to work with Precinct 2.
I've always been passionate about contributing to the community and creating spaces where people feel valued. My journey to Precinct 2 began with a desire to make a meaningful impact in public service, and working as a Community Center Aide at JD Walker Community Center has allowed me to do just that. Greeting visitors, providing assistance, and engaging with our community members are all things that align with my belief in fostering positive connections and collaboration.
2. Precinct 2 recently opened its Lift Zone, a space for teens. Describe your role in this program and the impact you hope it will have on the community.
The Lift Zone is an incredible initiative designed to provide a safe, resourceful space for teens to grow and learn. My role involves helping manage and showcase innovative resources like 3D printers, Playstation consoles, and more, which aim to inspire creativity and engagement. I hope this program empowers teens with new skills, fosters their imagination, and offers them a supportive environment where they can thrive.

3. What do you enjoy most about your job?
What I enjoy most is the opportunity to correct with people from all walks in life. Each day brings new interactions, whether it's helping someone discover a new resource or simply brightening their day with a friendly conversation. Seeing the positive impact of my work on the community is incredibly fulfilling.

4. What or who inspires you to dedicate your career to serving your community?
I'm inspired by the resilience and potential of the people I meet every day. Knowing that even small contributions can create ripple effects in someone's life motivates me. Additionally leaders, like Commissioner Garcia, who work tirelessly to improve our community remind me of the importance of service and innovation.
