Commissioner Adrian Garcia Applauds New Port of Houston Appointment

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – January 18- Harris County Commissioners Court and Houston City Council jointly appointed Ric Campo as the new Chairman for the Port of Houston Authority.

“Ric Campo is a great choice for the Port of Houston. He understands this region and what priorities it takes to move it forward,” said Commissioner Adrian Garcia.

Campo has been chair and CEO of Camden Property Trust since May 1993. He serves on the board of directors for organizations that focus on economic development and the future growth of Houston, including the Greater Houston Partnership. Ric Campo replaces Janice Longoria who served in the position of Chairman since 2013 and whose term ends this month.

Commissioner Garcia is looking forward to seeing more doors opening to small businesses working hard to grow and expand. “It is important we continue to support area businesses through an expanded Minority/Women Business Development Program,” he said.

Among several of Commissioner Garcia’s priorities related to the Port of Houston is to focus on the environment and holding industry accountable for abuses while at the same time supporting their economic contributions to the region.

“We have to work together and make a commitment to recognizing that Precinct 2 has among the highest rates of cancer in children and adults in Texas. Our families deserve better and we need to give them better. I look forward to working with the Chairman and the other Port Commissioners to work towards a green port as other areas have done so,” Said Commissioner Garcia
