Community Celebrates Forest Hill Bridge Project Completion

HOUSTON, TX— On August 21, 2019, members of the community joined Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia and The Harris County Flood Control District to celebrate the completion of the Forest Hill Boulevard Bridge. The now completed bridge is located on Forest Hill Boulevard just south of Briscoe Elementary School.

Construction first began on July of 2018, when Harris County Commissioners Court awarded almost $5 million for the construction contract. The modification of the two-lane bridge, which made it higher, longer, and wider, was initiated as an effort to increase storm water conveyance on Brays Bayou in South Central Harris County and reduce the flooding risks to the surrounding community.

“This project is significant because it connects communities and provides amenities to ensure flooding doesn’t continue to be a nuisance,” said Harris County Commissioner of Precinct 2, Adrian Garcia.

The new bridge also enables a trail connection between the north side trail and the south side trail.  This new multiuse trail on the east side of the bridge provides a direct connection between the communities to the north side of Forest Hill Bridge all the way to Mason Park.  The sidewalk on the west side of the bridge also increased in size from 3 to 6 feet. This cooperative effort between the Flood Control District, the City of Houston, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers forms the 18th bridge modification as part of Project Brays.
